The motto of The Investment Mentoring Institute is: "Building Great Investors". I am involved in designing the curriculum and providing some of the content.
I am using all of my experience of over 30 years in the market. I'm using the experience I gained while running top-ranked stock picking newsletters, hedge fund, mutual funds, and futures newsletters.
Please take a look. It is doubtful that you wouldn't profit from taking one of their programs!

Flashback
I remember the glory years of the underground press in the 1960's. They were irreverent, loud and disrespectful. They also occasionally wrote great investigative articles and opinions.
Most of them are now just lifestyle publications that have no bite at all.
I recently ran across the website for the old underground newspaper the LA Free Press. They have also apparently started to publish a print version as well.
It felt like the old days with very punchy and hard hitting articles. Of course, most of what they published is hysterically wrong but I had to respect their uncomprimising attitude. It was refreshing in an era of political mush. catboxer's blog | Los Angeles Free Press

First mules, now humans

Following yesterday's post, today's news shows that cloning will soon come to humans. It's not likely to come in the US but will likely take place in a country that would prefer the money and quality of life considerations rather than worry about the "moral" considerations. Look for China or South Korea to be the first to announce human cloning. Read More.

Cloned Mules Win Preliminary Races in Nev.

It's quite clear that cloning humans is or will soon be technologically feasible. It is likely that most countries will outlaw such cloning but competition between nations for this will also likely cause some country to allow it, thus letting the genie out of the bottle. BREITBART.COM

Movie: The Escapist
Strong B-movie about the lengths that a man will go to venge the death of his wife.
Movie: Two For the Money
Over the top movie about the sports betting information business. Based on a real person. Partially captures the mania of sports betting but only partially succeeds as a movie. Still, worth watching.
Movie: The Constant Gardener
Aggravating film about corruption in the pharma business in Africa. Unfortunately, the protagonist, played by Ralph Fienes, tunrs out to be a wimp and a loser. Emotionally disappointing.
Movie: Happy Endings
Interesting ensemble movie about relationships. Starts out a bit trite but ends up being quite profound.

Movie: Secuestro Express
Harrowing movie about quick kidnappings in Caracas Venezuela. Brutal and surprising.
I remember visiting Maracaibo, Venezuela in the mid-1990's. I was picked up at the airport by some very very rich people. As our Mercedes would to red lights, the driver would slow down, honk, and then speed through the red light. I couldn't believe how unsafe their driving was!
Turns out that they will never stop at a stop light for fear of kidnapping. As we got out of the car at their house, I saw the shotguns on the inside of the driver's door just like the highway patrol in the west. I then looked up and saw that their house was completely surrounded by high walls, razor wire, and the windows were covered by bars.
They lived with fear every day. Secuestro Express - Movie Info - Yahoo! Movies

Technology and Poker
I have always been totally fascinated with technology and investing. How can technology be used to create more profits and reduce risk?
The same questions apply to gambling. I recently started a new blog related solely to the use of technology to make money in poker. In particular, I am focusing on poker bots and other poker software. Check out Ppokerr.com!

Movie: 9 Songs
Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Explicit sex. The usual drugs. Live performances by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Von Bondies, Elbow, Primal Scream, The Dandy Warhols, Super Furry Animals, Franz Ferdinand, and Michael Nyman at the Brixton Acadamy. Rock N' Roll rhythms. The rhythms of a love affair. Oh yes, and a lot of love too.
Movie: Toy Story 2
Remarkable animation, excellent characters, sappy moral. Still, the animation takes my breath away.

Movie: Amores Perro
Three brutal tales. Totally non-Hollywood film is way too real. Bravado film making but somewhat melodramatic.

Movie: 2046
Wong Kar-Wai's 2046
Lush love story. Beautiful but ultimately empty. Each frame is filled with beauty. Each frame is exquisite. But the ennui is palpable.
This is a story told more by voice over than action. Zhang Ziyi can move through several emotions within just a second or two. Few actresses have such finesse.
We can now see that Beauty comes from film, not "fine" art.

Dvorak: Windows Vista: Where's the Buzz?
The always interesting John Dvorak has an interesting article on the future the desktop space on PC's, particularly the operating system. I can pretty much agree with him but these exceptions.
First, Steve Jobs will find a way to screw up the move to Intel. I sincerely hope not because I am a Macaddict but Jobs has a way of being an elitist.
One of the very interesting features of a Mac combined with a .Mac subscription is iDisk. This is a virtual hard drive that resides on Apple's servers. The key concept is that this makes the internet an extension of your own personal computer. Their are significant ramifications that nobody is dealing with. Where is Larry Ellison with his thin computer?
It also seems like the browser has the ability to become a much more powerful medium and replace a lot of the current desktop. Google has led the way with the use of the AJAX technology, thus showing how powerful a browser can be as a limited operating system.
This whole area is ripe for innovation. It's exciting! Column from PC Magazine: Windows Vista: Where's the Buzz?
